Key signs that you need to replace your roof

It’s important to know the signs that your roof might be failing.  Here are a few danger signs that Josh says you should look for:

Leakage in the attic after a wind-driven rain or ice buildup. This could mean the shingle underlayment is inadequate or deteriorating, allowing water to leak in.

Blistering or peeling of interior or exterior paint. When your paint starts blistering it often means humidity is building up due to poor attic ventilation.

Stains on interior ceilings and/or walls, and mold/mildew growth. Again, these signs can point to faulty shingle underlayment that is allowing for leaking or poor ventilation.

Dark, dirty looking spots on your roof. This could mean loss of granules due to the age of your shingles.

Missing, cracked or curled shingles. This one is a little more obvious and means your shingles have reached the end of their lifespan.

Excessive energy costs. Insufficient attic ventilation causes heating/cooling system to run excessively. In both hot and cold weather, insufficient attic ventilation may cause moisture in the attic to become trapped and condense on the rafters. This condensed moisture can drip down onto the insulation and reduce its effectiveness.
