A homeowner is advised to have a roof inspection every six months to follow active preventative care. As far as doing your own part, there are many steps you can take for yourself. For example, it is essential that the drain pipes from all roofs be kept clear. This is doubly important in the case of a flat roof.  Respectively, the gutters and drain pipes should be cleared of leaves and debris at least annually. Despite the type of roof, you should remain on the lookout for leakages and broken or cracked tiles or slates.
